Third trimester sleep

So, sleep gets notoriously difficult in the 3rd tri.  I've been dreading it, but I think I found my solution-- my sleeping nest. I build myself a little pillow fort every night and I've been sleeping pretty well!

Parrain B and Nanny D!!

So, if you're from South Louisiana, you know we take our godparent roles pretty seriously.  We call them "nanny" and "Parrains" - it's a French thing and very big part of our culture. 

Well, we wanted Alexander to have that and also to have two of the most loving, caring and kind people we know.  Meet Parrain B and Nanny D! 

32 weeks -- the one where we go to Mardi Gras and have our baby showers

How far along: 32 weeks (February 22, 2014)

Baby is the size of a(n): jicama (or pineapple) 

What is baby up to?:  
• getting fat

• opening up his eyes, developing lung capacity

•getting hiccups and kicking me in the bladder 

Weight gain: 21 lbs total (been even for a couple of weeks now

Maternity clothes: Yep, even t-shirts are starting to get tight now   

Stretch marks: nope 

Belly button in or out: in, but seriously trying to convert 

Sleep: So. Much. Better. I think something clicked in the past few weeks where my body just got used to sleeping on my side.   

Best moment this week: going home to louisiana, seeing family and friends and my awesome shower. Seeing my mom, dad and sister's faces when they got to feel baby Alexander move was pretty priceless. I love how excited they are about him. 

Worst moment this week: Work. So much work.  

Miss anything: a daiquiri at Mardi gras!   

Movement: Yes. I think he's been the most active I ever felt the past few days. The crazy thing is that I can feel him move on my hip and my rib at the same time. Baby's taking up way more room. 

Cravings: none 

Symptoms: None. Things are going pretty great.  

Looking forward to: check in on baby at my apt on Friday and our meeting with the doula on Saturday. 

Also, I'm so looking forward to the end of this trial so I can play with all the baby stuff I got at my showers! 

Bump update-- 31 weeks! The one where I'm in trial mode and have no time to update...

Sorry for being so MIA, everyone! I have a trial starting next week, so no time to update. I'll try to catch up soon.  In the meantime just know baby Duggan is growing by the day, getting hiccups daily, I can see him move from the outside now, and my coworkers threw me the best shower last week.  Things are hectic, but going great!! 

Bump Update -- 30 weeks!

On the rainy day (we need it!) I'm reminiscing about beach + belly + sunshine happiness. 

Dirty thirty!

Can you believe I'm 30 years old now?! I feel like the last decade has flown by, but at the same time, so much has happened in that time-- I graduated from Stanford, moved across the country, got my law degree and social work degree, met the man of my dreams, moved across the country again, moved to another country, lived in Portugal, married that man of my dreams, landed my dream job (lots of dreams here, people), moved to my favorite city in the world, and made a baby. Phew! 

I've been...busy. 

I thought I'd be dreading turning 30, but honestly, I'm so looking forward to it. For so many reasons, but it boils down to the fact that I feel that I am right where I want to be in my life at this moment. And I'm just happy. 

So here's to 30! 

And here are some highlights of my amazing surprise weekend in Santa Cruz...

First, AJ left me this card on Thursday night letting me know that we'd be leavin' town on Friday! 

He picked me up from work and we started driving (through the mountains, down the coast). I still had no idea where we were heading...

Then we arrived in Santa Cruz at this fabulous bed and breakfast called the West Cliff Inn...

AJ had booked us the deluxe suite complete with fireplace, beach views and an in-suite jacuzzi...he knows how to keep this preggo lady happy :) 

We went on an awesome hike/walk and ate some delicious food.
